FAQ

  • How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you're even asking this question, chances are something inside you is ready for a shift. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Whether you’re carrying something heavy or just feeling a quiet sense that things could be different, therapy can be a space to reconnect with yourself and make meaningful change at your own pace.

  • How do I get started?

The first step is simple: just reach out. We’ll start with a free 15 minute phone consultation to talk about what’s bringing you here and see if it feels like a good fit. From there, we’ll schedule an intake session and begin to get to know each other. You don’t have to have it all figured out to take this step—I’ll walk with you.

  • Where do sessions take place?

I offer both virtual and in-person therapy sessions, depending on what works best for you. In-person appointments are available at my offices in Manhattan and Nassau County, Long Island. Virtual sessions offer flexibility that many clients like, whereas others prefer the direct interaction of in-person appointments. We can choose the format that suits you.

  • What should I expect during our initial meeting?

In our initial session, the focus is on you sharing your experiences and us beginning to form a therapeutic relationship. If we've already connected for a consultation, we'll expand on that conversation to explore things more thoroughly. Moving into our second or third session, we'll collaboratively start to define your goals and create a roadmap for our work together. I'll also ensure we address any questions you have regarding administrative aspects, such as informed consent and privacy practices.

  • Is therapy confidential?

Yes—confidentiality is a cornerstone of our work together. What you share with me stays between us. There are a few legal exceptions, such as concerns about immediate safety or abuse, and I’ll always be transparent about those. My goal is for you to feel safe, seen, and supported in this space.

  • What kind of individuals do you typically work alongside?

I work with individual adults (18 years old and up) who struggle with different mental health issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and grief. My therapeutic methodology is individualized to address your specific requirements. While collaborative sessions, where a partner, friend, or family member is invited to attend for additional support, can be beneficial for some clients, this approach may not suit everyone's needs or preferences. With your consent, we can explore whether such collaborative engagements might be a valuable means for fostering a sense of being heard and supported within a secure therapeutic context for you.

If you’re looking for a therapist for a child, teen, or couple, I’m happy to offer referrals.

  • How long is each session?

    Sessions are 45 minutes long

*EMDR sessions take 60 or 90 minutes.

  • How does EMDR differ from standard talk therapy?

Regular talk therapy uses talking and exploring feelings. EMDR uses eye movements or other side-to-side stimulation to reprocess distressing memories, directly targeting trauma, while talk therapy has a broader focus. We can incorporate EMDR at the beginning stage of treatment or later, depending on a thorough clinical assessment of your needs.

  • How often will we meet?

To help you get the most out of therapy, especially in the initial stages, I usually suggest meeting weekly. This allows for a consistent and supportive space where we can build a strong therapeutic connection, which is vital for your healing journey. For clients further along in their therapy, we can discuss the possibility of bi-weekly sessions after an assessment. I also understand that scheduling can be tricky, so I'll do my best to be flexible.

  • Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider and can offer a superbill for insurance reimbursement.

Additionally, I have a limited sliding scale available for clients with financial need.

  • What’s your cancellation policy?

My policy regarding cancellations is that I require at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule (for Monday sessions, please notify me by Friday). I do understand that unexpected circumstances like emergencies or significant illness can arise. However, if a session is missed without prior notice or we cannot find an alternative time for same week, the full session fee will be charged.

  • What issues do you specialize in?

I work with adults navigating a range of challenges—whether it’s anxiety, depression, grief, relationship struggles, trauma, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling like something just isn’t working, even if they can’t quite name what it is. If that resonates, you’re not alone, and you’re in the right place.

  • What’s your approach to therapy?

My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in respect for your lived experience. I draw from several therapeutic frameworks—including psychodynamic, mindfulness-based, and relational approaches—tailoring our work to fit you, not the other way around. Therapy with me is less about “fixing” and more about gently uncovering what’s getting in your way, building insight, and finding new ways to move forward.

  • What should I expect from ongoing sessions?

Each session is a place for you to bring whatever’s on your mind—no pressure, no judgment. Some weeks may feel deep and emotional, others more reflective or focused on problem-solving. I’ll follow your lead while also helping you notice patterns, connect dots, and build tools that support lasting change. We’ll check in regularly about how things are going and adjust as needed.

  • What if I don’t feel like we’re a good fit?

Therapy is a deeply personal process, and the connection between therapist and client really matters. If at any point it feels like we’re not the right match, please know that you can bring that into the room. My priority is your well-being, and I’ll do my best to support you in finding someone who feels like a better fit if that’s what’s needed. You deserve to feel safe and supported in your healing.
